From Setbacks to Success: My Experience Getting a Dutch Driving Licence
After several attempts, I finally passed my Dutch driving practical exam. It was a journey full of challenges, valuable lessons, and personal growth. The Beginning of My Journey
When I first moved to the Netherlands many years ago, I never anticipated staying long-term, and the idea of getting a Dutch driving license didn’t seem necessary. That was my first mistake. As an expat with a highly skilled migrant status, I had the option to exchange my foreign driving license for a Dutch one within the first five years of my stay — a huge advantage I didn’t take seriously at the time.
It wasn’t until a few years later, when family expanded and I had truly settled in the Netherlands, that I realized how essential having a car was for our daily life. I naively assumed that obtaining a driving license would be an easy process. How wrong I was!
